I hear a lot of talk about how candles have caused so many fires. But, in my minds eye, candles are like guns.  Guns don’t kill, neither do candles start fires. It is people who shoot the gun and people who lite the candles. It is irresponsible people who start the fire, not the candle.

We all know to burn candles away from drafts, fans, or vents. How about putting them too close to curtains, places where they can be knocked off, places where children or animals can get to them.

Also, consider the surface you place them. I usually place on metal of some sort. Don’t forget to check the jar the candle is in. Is the container a cheap, thin glass?

But, more important than anything, are you the sort of person who forgets to put the candle out when going to bed or leaving?  If that is the case, maybe you should purchase a melter and use melts for your fragrance. But then again, what do you do if the lights go out and no candle around.

So, just like guns, candles can be equally dangerous. But only due to the handler.

Well, Halloween is over and now we are gearing up for Christmas.  With Tree Lighting, Yuletide, Spruce Orchard, and Firewood coming on board giving us a large selection for Christmas or I should say winter.

It won’t be long and we will be going into Valentines season. Like Christmas, this is a good time to think about candles for gifts. Even for a guy, we have a great selection of dogs. One idea is to get a picture of your guys best friend, his dog, send it to us and we can mold his breed and paint the dog like the picture. He’ll know you put some thought in that. Add it to his hunting gear, or any activity he shares with his buddy. A candle of his buddy for his man cave, how cute is that?

I also have one mold for a horse or pony. I’ve been quite picky about my horse molds. That being said, I am still searching for just the right ones. But, we do offer this one horse.

Wow, the holidays will be here before you know it.

The first and one of my favorites is Halloween. I think it is one of the most fun, because the kids are so into this day. They are so cute in their little costumes and so excited to go out and trick and treat.  I find the children coming into our store are drawn to the Halloween candles.

Making the pumpkin, ghosts, spider molded candles are a lot of fun, as well. However, they are some of the most difficult to make. Therefore, we make them to order, not keeping a supply on hand.  So when you get your Halloween candles, in the fragrance you want, you will know they are fresh and not left over from last year.  Because of this, your orders need to be made soon.

We have some new fragrances on our list and they are: Jasmine, Red Velvet Cake, and Firewood.  Firewood smells just like wood burning out camping or inside your house. I think it is nice to put Firewood and Cinnamon Buns burning at the same time.

We recently did a test video to see how it would work. The very last of the video shows a yellow cake and now that cake has won 2nd place at the fair. Please don’t make fun of our video, it is the first and is only an impromptu test.

• Fragrance is by far the most important characteristic impacting candle purchases today, with three-fourths of candle buyers saying it is “extremely important” or “very important” in their selection of a candle.

I started a new endeavor I am really excited about.  We are going into the bakery items. And, right now I am working on cakes.

The first cake I made is a three layer, hand whipped frosting, Carrot Cake. The second a solid 5 pound, funky designed, yellow, topped with white whipped frosting and black raspberries and bananas, favored in Coconut.  The third a two layer white, topped with pink frosting and strawberries, scented in Cake Bake.

They look like real cakes, ideal for center pieces and gifts.

These will not be for sale for a while as I am entering them in the fair. I’m excited to be how they do.

I talked awhile back about having your olfactory receptors stimulated. Today in another blog I saw this – an excerpt from it.
